Did a solo ride on Saturday. Started in Lambertville, NJ, took 29 north to Frenchtown. Shady in the A.M., less traffic than I expected, no other bikes in the lot in Frenchtown for the mandatory coffee and bagel.
Crossed over the bridge to PA. and headed north on 32. This section seems always to be in the shade and was even cool with my mesh jacket. Followed to intersection
With 611 and immediately into the sunshine.
Followed 611 north through Easton and continued north. At this point you head away from the river but travel through mostly rural
Farmland with some hills and turns. Continued to intersection for routes 94, 46 to 80.
Crossed in NJ and eventually got on 80 west. This part sucked. Bumper to bumper traffic for a thousand miles...ok maybe 5 miles. Everybody heading to the Poconos through the Delaware Water Gap. Got off at last exit in NJ to ride the Old Mine Road.
Waited my turn at the 3 minute light and headed north. First part of road is ok. Gets a little rough in spots. Hit one pothole a little harder than I liked. Then a nice new paved section and I got hopeful. Road got rough again then rougher then a sign Rough Road Ahead. Oh boy, they weren't kidding. This lasted about 2-3 miles but felt like 50. Made my way to the Dingmans Ferry Bridge. Of course didn't have a dollar handy for the toll and had to dig my wallet out. Luckily no one behind me. Continued to 209 south. Stopped at The Roost on 209 for lunch.
Continued on 209, hit traffic at every light through the touristy part of the Pococnos continued to the intersection with 611 and headed south. Picked up 32 south crossed back into NJ at Frenchtown. 29 south to Lambertville.
All told about 200 miles and 5 hours including stops.
What I learned.
Seat on my 2010 t bird sucks. I am going to order a Mustang with backrest.
Next time I will stay on 611 north to the Gap and cross on 80 east into Jersey. There was no traffic going east.
Will not take the Old Mine Road unless I hear they have repaved that section.
Will avoid the tourist section of 209 and follow local roads along the river.
Give myself some more time to head a little farther north to ride 97 through the Hawks Nest along the Delaware between NY and PA.

I do both sides of the Delaware along route 32 pretty frequently, usually between Washington Crossing and Frenchtown. The PA and NJ sides have a very different feel along the same stretch. Next time you're in Frenchtown, consider shooting up to Sky Manor Airport in Pittstown; it's only about 7 miles from Frenchtown, a scenic ride and there's a nice little restaurant (The Sky Cafe) at the airport where you can watch vintage airplanes and helicoptors come and go.

Thanks for your writeup. I'm going to check out more of your route next time I'm up there.

BTW, I've got the Mustang seat with the backrest and you won't be sorry. If you get one, check out my solution for securing the backrest from sticky fingers: Link

"97 through the Hawks Nest along the Delaware between NY and PA."

That sure sounds interesting and looks great!

I've been to the Sky Cafe several times for breakfast. Meet my brother in law there. Then do a ride through Hunterdon country.
